The Shih Tzu Care....... Exercise Needs The Shih Tzu does not need too much exercise, though it thoroughly enjoys playing outdoors. However, they need company all the time and cannot adjust to long periods of solitude. Hence, if you choose this breed, you will need to be there for this dog the majority time of the day. Shih-Tzu will do well with a minimum of exercise, though an occasional walk on the leash can help keep the dog trim and happy. Shih-Tzu do well in apartment living because of their relatively small size. However, this breed is naturally active, thus needing opportunity and encouragement to exercise outside. Here, the most important general aspect of Shih Tzu care you can give this dog is yourself and your time. Shih Tzu Feeding Guides The Shih Tzu loves to eat and you will find that the most common self-induced problem is obesity. It is good if you learn from the beginning to abstain from over-feeding them. They never stop eating and they have extraordinary capabilities to digest, for which you will never know when to stop feeding it; more so when you feed it tiny tidbits. Hence, you should stick to the only-meals routine as part of general Shih Tzu care, and do not allow too much snacking in between. The Shih-Tzu diet should be carefully monitored for content and amount. This breed should not be overfed because they tend to gain weight easily and can become overweight. The Shih-Tzu can be sensitive to hot weather, so care should be taken to provide a cool environment and shade when outside. MOST Important part to groom a Shih Tzu Maintaining the coat is very important as far as shih-Tzu dogs are concerned. If the coat is groomed well, the chances of skin problem is less. In case the dogs are not groomed properly, skin infections, maggot infestation, hot spots, tangles and even painful mats can develop. A Shih Tzu who is not groomed at least once in two days, will develop skin problems owing to matted and tangled hair, not to mention dirty.
